This is the last Will and Testament of me CATHERINE ALEXANDER of 174 Haverstock Hill in the County of Middlesex Spinster I appoint my dear sister FRANCES and my cousins GEORGE FREDERICK POLLOCK of Hanworth Middlesex Esquire the Honorable Sir CHARLES EDWARD POLLOCK one of the Barons of the late Court of Exchequer and HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK of 11 St Helens Place in the City of London solicitor EXECUTORS of this my will and I give to the said HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK the sum of fifty pounds free of legacy duty for his trouble in acting as such executor and I give devise and bequeath all my real and all other my personal estate of whatsoever kind or wheresoever situate and over which I may at my death have any dispoising power unto my said sister FRANCES for her absolute use and benefit but in case my said sister shall die in my lifetime then I give and bequeath all my watches jewels ornaments of the person and wearing apparel and all my plate plated articles furniture linen glass china pictures books and other articles of household use and ornament and my household stores and provisions to my niece DORA the wife of EDWARD ROSS Esquire and I give and bequeath the following pecuniary legacies to my niece CHARLOTTE ANN ALEXANDER one hundred pounds to the British Society for the Propagation of the Gospel amongst the Jews twenty five pounds to the Church Missionary Society one hundred pounds to the Irish Church Missions to the Roman Catholics twenty five pounds to the Church Pastoral Aid Society twenty pounds all the foregoing legacies to be free of duty and I declare that the receipts of the respective treasurers or secretaries for the time being of the said societies or institutions shall be sufficient discharges for the legacies given to them respectively and I give devise and bequeath all the residue of my estate and effects both real and personal of which I may be possessed or have any disposing power unto the said GEORGE FREDERICK POLLOCK the Honorable Sir CHARLES EDWARD POLLOCK and HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK upon trust to sell and convert into money such parts thereof as shall not consist of money and out of the proceeds of such sale and any ready money of which I may be possessed to pay all my debts and funeral and testamentary expenses and the legacies and duty thereon given by this my will and to stand possessed of the sum of five thousand five hundred pounds (part of my residuary trust fund) upon trust to invest the same in manner hereinafter mentioned and to pay the income thereof to my niece DORA ROSS during her life for her separate use without power of anticipation and after her death to pay such income to the said EDWARD ROSS during his life or unless or until he shall become bankrupt or insolvent or compound with his creditors and after the death of the survivor of them the said EDWARD ROSS and DORA his wife or the death of the said DORA ROSS and the bankruptcy or insolvency or compounding with his creditors by the said EDWARD ROSS I direct my trustees to hold the said sum and the securities for the time being representing the same upon trust for all or any such one or more exclusively of the other or others of the children or issue of the said DORA ROSS born during her lifetime or within twenty one years after her death in such manner in every respect as the said EDWARD ROSS and DORA ROSS shall at any time by deed jointly appoint and in default of any such joint appointment then as the survivor of them shall (and as to the said DORA ROSS whether covert or sole) by deed or will appoint and in default of and subject to any such appointment in trust for all the children or any the child of the said DORA ROSS who being sons or a son shall attain the age of twenty one years or being daughters or a daughter shall attain that age or marry and if more than one in equal shares and I direct my trustees to stand possessed of the sum of three thousand five hundred pounds (further part of my residuary trust funds) UPON trust for my nephew Colonel MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON absolutely but if he should die in my lifetime then UPON trust for his wife BEATRIX ELIZABETH for her life and after her decease upon trust for all the children or any the child of the said MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON equally to be divided between them if more than one  as tenants in common AS to a further sum of three thousand five hundred pounds UPON trust to pay the same to the said HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK and MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON or the survivor of them to be held upon the trusts following that is to say upon trust to invest the same in or upon the same investments as are hereinafter declared as to the other monies liable for investment under this my will and to hold the proceeds to arise therefrom in trust to apply the income thereof for or towards the maintenance education or benefit of the child or children of my nephew FRED ROWLANDSON who shall be living at my decease and either themselves so apply the said income or pay the same to ANNA MARIA PEARS of Bath or to such other person or persons who may have charge of such children  for the time being for the purposes aforesaid without seeing to the application thereof until such child or the youngest of such children of the said FRED ROWLANDSON shall attain the age of twenty one years and upon the happening of that event in trust to pay and divide the said sum of three thousand five hundred pounds or the securities and investments between and among such children of the said FRED ROWLANDSON then living share and share alike and if only one child the whole to that child and I declare that if any such child or any of such children shall die before the happening of the aforesaid event leaving lawful issue then living such lawful issue shall take their parents share and I authorise the said HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK and MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON or the survivor of them to raise the whole or any part of the expectant or presumptive share or shares to which any child or children of the said FRED ROWLANDSON or their issue as aforesaid shall or may be entitled under this my will and to pay and apply the same for the advancement or benefit of such child or children or issue in such manner as the said HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK and MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON or the survivor of them shall in their sole discretion think fit and subject as aforesaid I direct my trustees to stand and be possessed of my residuary trust funds in trust for the said MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON absolutely Provided always and I hereby declare that with respect to the expectant or presumptive or vested portion for the time being of any child of the said DORA ROSS and MICHAEL ALEXANDER ROWLANDSON under the trusts of this my will it shall be lawful for my trustees at any time or times after the death of the person for the time being entitled to the income of the respective trust funds or previously thereto with the consent in writing of such person to raise any part or parts not exceeding one moiety of such portion and to pay or apply the same for the advancement or benefit of such child in such manner as my trustees shall think fit and I hereby declare that my trustees shall invest all monies liable to investment under this my will in or upon any of the public stocks or funds or government securities as or upon freehold copyhold or leasehold securities in England or Wales or in or upon the preference or debenture stocks mortgages or securities of any corporation company or public body whether commerical municipal local or otherwise carrying on business or constituted for any purpose in the United Kingdom and I hereby declare that notwithstanding the trust for sale and conversion hereinbefore contained my trustees may retain and hold any of the investments and securities of which I may be possessed at the time of my death as part of the several trust funds hereinbefore created and I hereby declare that the said HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK or any Firm of which he may be for the time being a partner shall be entitled to charge and be paid all professional or other charges for any business or act done by him or his firm in connection with the trusts or execution of this my will including acts which an executor or trustee could have done personally and I revoke all other wills  IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and ninety six – CATHERINE ALEXANDER – SIGNED by the said CATHERINE ALEXANDER and declared by her to be her last On the 8th day of March 1897 Probate of this will was granted to GEORGE FREDERICK POLLOCK and HARRY FREDERICK POLLOCK two of the Executors
